Wislawa Szymborska (1923-2012) was born in Bunin, a small town in Poland, in 1923. She was good at describing serious topics and everyday things in a humorous and poetic tone, and answering life with poetry. She is the most popular poet in Poland and is recognized as one of the most charming poets of the contemporary era. She enjoys the reputation of "Mozart in the poetry world". In 1996, she won the Nobel Prize in Literature and became the third female poet in literary history to win the award. On a February night in 2012, Szymborska died peacefully in her residence. At her funeral, people from all over Poland came to bid the poet a final farewell.

About the Translator:

Chen Li is a famous Taiwanese poet and translator. He has written more than 20 collections of poetry, prose, and music reviews. He has won many awards, including the Times Literature Award, the United Daily News Literature Award, the Liang Shiqiu Literature Award Translation Award, and the Golden Tripod Award.

Zhang Fenling graduated from the English Department of National Taiwan Normal University. She is the author of the collection of criticism "Modern Poetry Revelation" and has translated more than ten books with Chen Li. She has won the Liang Shiqiu Literature Award for Translation many times.
