Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
"Sewers: A Folding History of Underground Cities" uses a large number of maps, pictures, and charts, using time and events as clues to introduce the amazing ancient drainage projects from ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, and the Roman Empire to the thought-provoking underground city systems of modern cities such as London, Paris, New York, and Tokyo.
The historical data presented in the book repeatedly show that in addition to the glitz and glamour of the city above ground, an underground system is also needed to solve problems. However, the realization of each underground engineering miracle is by no means achieved overnight. While admiring the wisdom of our ancestors and the courage of the designers and managers, "Sewer" also tells the unbearable urban secrets, and also suggests to readers that along with the development and upgrading of urban sewer projects, there are also various cultural connotations that have been precipitated and fermented, which keep the sewers unobstructed from another level. Sewers are the conscience of a city.
