Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
Chinoiserie is an artistic and cultural phenomenon that has appeared in Europe since the late 13th century. The fact that Marco Polo was received by Kublai Khan in Yuan Dadu (Beijing) can be regarded as a symbol of the rise of Chinoiserie. However, the academic term Chinoiserie was not defined until the 19th century, and was used to describe European art trends influenced by Chinese or more broadly Far Eastern culture. This book aims to outline the historical trajectory of the development of Chinoiserie in Europe for readers through supporting pictures and texts.
