Moment in Peking is a novel written in English by Lin Yutang when he lived in Paris in the late 1930s. The original title of the book is Moment in Peking. The book tells the joys and sorrows, grievances and hatreds of the three major families of Zeng, Yao and Niu in Peking over a period of more than 30 years from the Boxer Rebellion in 1901 to the Anti-Japanese War. Lin Yutang (1895-1976) is a master of Chinese studies and a Chinese writer who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature twice. He wrote The Art of Living, My Country and My People, Moment in Peking, etc. He also translated the philosophy of Confucius, Mencius, Laozi and Zhuangzi and the literary works of Tao Yuanming, Li Bai, Su Dongpo, Cao Xueqin and others into English and promoted them overseas. He is the first Chinese writer to become famous overseas for writing in English and a well-known scholar who combines the roles of linguist, philosopher and writer.
