About the Author

Wang Zengqi (1920-1997) was born in Gaoyou, Jiangsu Province. In 1939, he was admitted to the Chinese Department of Southwest Associated University, where he studied under Yang Zhensheng, Wen Yiduo, and Zhu Ziqing. He was a disciple of Mr. Shen Congwen. He was a Chinese teacher in a middle school and a staff member of the History Museum. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he worked in the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Research Association, and edited publications such as "Beijing Literature and Art", "Talk and Sing", and "Folk Literature". In 1958, he was wrongly labeled as a rightist. At the end of 1962, he was transferred to the Beijing Peking Opera Troupe (Institute) as a screenwriter.

He has served as a director of the Beijing Drama Association, a director of the China Writers Association, and a consultant of the China Writers Association. He has published more than 40 collections of novels and essays at home and abroad. His representative works include the novels "Shoujie" and "Da Nao Jishi".
