Fu Lei (1908-1966) is a famous Chinese literary translator and literary critic. He translated a large number of works throughout his life. His translations are characterized by vividness, fluent writing, rich words, and good color changes, forming the characteristics of Fu's translation that are well-known in the translation world. He mainly translated famous works of French masters such as Romain Rolland, Balzac, Taine, Ford, and Merimee. His translations of "Old Goriot", "Jean-Christophe", and "The Philosophy of Art" are the most famous. There are 34 works in total, about 5 million words, all of which are included in the "Fu Lei Translation Collection". More than one million words of literature, art, music and other works are included in the "Fu Lei Collection". Mr. Fu Lei was magnanimous and resolute. He was persecuted at the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution". In the early morning of September 3, 1966, he and his wife Zhu Meifu both died in anger and ended their lives tragically. The "Fu Lei Family Letters" selected and published by his second son Fu Min after his death are the words of his temperament, written casually, not created for publication. Most new readers after the "Cultural Revolution" got to know Fu Lei through family letters, and even put Fu Lei the letter writer above Fu Lei the translator.
Fou Ts'ong, a world-renowned pianist, was born on March 10, 1934 in Shanghai, in a family full of artistic atmosphere and academic spirit. Fou Ts'ong attended primary school intermittently for a few years in his childhood, mainly supervised by his father. He began to learn piano at the age of eight and a half from Li Huifang, and at the age of nine from Liszt's disciple Bai Qi. After Bai Qi's death in 1946, he basically taught himself. In 1954, he went to Poland to study abroad, studying under the famous piano educator Professor Jewicki, and won the third place in the "Fifth Chopin Piano Competition" and the best performance award for "Mazurka" in 1955. At the end of 1958, he graduated from the Warsaw National Conservatory of Music with excellent results ahead of schedule, and moved to London, England. He has been alone in the international music scene for more than 50 years and has the reputation of "Piano Poet".
