Feng Jicai, a native of Ningbo, Zhejiang, was born in Tianjin in 1942. He was originally a painter. After the Cultural Revolution, he became a representative writer of the "Scar Literature Movement". After 1985, his "Cultural Reflection Novels" had a profound impact on the literary world. His works cover a wide range of topics and are diverse in form. He has published nearly 100 collections of works and 40 translations overseas. In the past decade, Feng Jicai has devoted himself to the protection of urban historical culture and the rescue of folk culture. He is currently the vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the chairman of the China Folk Artists Association, the dean of the Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art of Tianjin University, a doctoral supervisor, and the director of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Expert Committee.
