"Upheaval" explores a major issue facing human society today: when a crisis comes, how should we respond? From an individual perspective, a crisis can change a person's growth trajectory. If it is not handled properly, he will live in negative emotions for the rest of his life. For the entire human society, a crisis can cause a civilization to decline, a country to disintegrate, and an era to end. Therefore, how to distinguish crises, respond to crises, avoid crises, turn crises into opportunities, and achieve upheavals for individuals and the entire human society is the main issue facing mankind today. Pulitzer Prize winner and author of "Guns, Germs, and Steel" Diamond once again demonstrated his top level of historical narrative, taking us on a tour of crisis responses in various countries in history, and showing the historical evolution of how humans have responded to crises since ancient times from interdisciplinary perspectives such as sociology, psychology, economics, and biological evolution, and advising countries, companies, and the entire human society on how to gain inspiration from the evolutionary logic and physiological changes of individuals responding to crises, and looking at crisis response, a proposition related to the future of mankind, from a more multi-dimensional and broad perspective.
