Introduction · · · · · ·
The Compson family is a famous family in Jefferson Town. Their ancestors once served as governors and generals, but by the time of Jason Compson, they had fallen into decline. The Compsons had three sons and one daughter, but their relationship was not happy. The second daughter, Cam, was willful since childhood and got pregnant before marriage. The eldest brother Quentin had been obsessed with his sister since childhood. Stimulated by Cam's loss of virginity and marriage, he drowned in the river while studying at Harvard. Quentin's suicide dealt a heavy blow to Mr. Compson, who was already depressed because of Cam. He soon passed away, and the third son Jason became the head of the family. Jason was withdrawn, mediocre in talent, and his greedy nature made him struggle in the end. The youngest son Benjamin was mentally retarded, and only his sister Cam and the black maid Dilsey gave him real care.
