Description

Introduction · · · · · ·
Images are everywhere.

Why do some images get thousands of likes, or even become icons of visual culture, while others don’t? How do images capture, amaze, and hypnotize us?

Riccardo Falcinelli uses a paradigm completely different from that of previous art books, juxtaposing Renaissance paintings with Kubrick's films and contrasting abstract art with contemporary advertising to explain how images are designed and created.

Reading this book is like entering the studio of a top painter, director, and photographer, and gaining a deep understanding of the secrets behind image creation.

Editor's Recommendation:

★A must-have for image and video creators Focus, composition, light, size, proportion, hue...what determines the success or failure of a picture. A large number of classic image comparison cases reveal the secrets of image creation.

★Looking through the history of images for thousands of years, looking for the changing and unchanging creative rules From cave paintings, oil paintings, sketches to photos, movies, advertisements, and selfies, what has created today's popular images and our visual aesthetics? When you pick up your phone to take a photo, your psychology is no different from that of people in the 15th century.

★ Enter the master class that is impossible to exist in reality. Van Gogh, Cézanne, Ozu Yasujiro, Spielberg... Reading this book is like entering the studios of top artists from ancient times to the present, and learning the masters' creative techniques through the analysis of classic works.

★500 representative pictures across time and media, starting a wonderful art journey From Titian's paintings to Dolce & Gabbana advertisements, from "The Last Supper" to Kubrick's "The Shining", the author carefully selects 500 pictures from the history of images spanning thousands of years, guiding readers to travel through the history of images and enjoy the ultimate visual feast.

Reader Comments:

Great is the only word that comes to mind. I find the concepts studied over the years to be relevant to the contemporary use of images. Specific and super interesting parallels that allow us to interpret more critically the images we constantly see on social networks. Falcinelli is one of the best contemporary Italian writers, writing with clarity without being obscure, with concrete examples and even a little irony.

A book that inspires imagination and creativity, showing in a rapidly changing world all the facets of an image, from a work of art to an Instagram selfie. A masterpiece about the history of images and their multiple meanings.

If you are interested in art, photography, design or are just a little curious, this book is for you. It is very informative and the examples given by the author are all in the book so that even a novice can follow along and understand the concepts expressed by the author. I think this book is absolutely not to be missed.

——Amazon Reader Reviews

A brief history of the gaze, with all its visual expressions together: frescoes, paintings, drawings, photographs, cartoons, instagrams, newspaper clippings. Riccardo Falcinelli knows how to use precise language, insert interesting historical anecdotes and complete his writing with technical concepts. He is the best writer of his time.
