Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
Not wanting to spend the last moments of one's life in a nursing home or a hospital, but rather in one's own familiar home, in one's own way - this is probably what many people expect of their old age.
In "Saying Goodbye to the World in a Familiar Home", Chizuko Ueno shares her preparations for her later years through a comprehensive survey of the latest medical, nursing, and other situations in Japan, giving readers the confidence that "dying alone at home with dignity is possible." As an aging society approaches and the number of people living alone increases, Chizuko Ueno's observations and insights can provide us with some useful references.

I have no family and live basically alone. I am now 72 years old. In the future, I will continue to walk the last part of my life, be identified as needing care, and then die quietly alone. If my death is discovered one day, I don’t want people to think that I died alone. This is the motivation for writing this book. - Chizuko Ueno
This book allows you to understand the Japanese view of life and death, which is very daily and real. At the same time, Chizuko Ueno's discoveries and insights into medical care, nursing, and "lonely death" are also thought-provoking. ——Mao Danqing
This is a very radical book. Chizuko Ueno gives the problems faced by a highly aging society, and a vision of combining "de-familialization of nursing care" with "home life". - Dan Bao
