Translation and introduction of the representative works of Ungaretti in all stages of hermit poetry
【Editor's recommendation】
※ Ungaretti's poetry combines the tendency of carnival in Italian culture with the cold and rational introspective style in French culture. His works have changed modern Italian poetry and announced the arrival of a unique voice in world poetry.
※In "In the Shadow of Paradise Lost", the earliest poem and the latest poem were written almost sixty years apart. We can see the changes in the theme, rhetoric, rhyme, etc., but overall, a sensitive young yet old poetic heart dominates everything.
【Celebrity Recommendation】
Ungaretti is one of the few true poets of my generation.
——TS Eliot
Ungaretti's poetry always conveys to me a freshness, an infinitely bright air of freedom, a very convincing and moving voice... His words are so calm, precise, and so concise in the silent blanks.
—Jorge Guillén
【Content Introduction】
Giuseppe Ungaretti is an important Italian poet of the 20th century and one of the three great hermits. He writes poems with great care, looking for a few words that are unexpectedly illuminated by the light of experience, and then connects these scattered words into beautiful verses in a thrilling way. His poems reflect an extremely delicate and subtle modern poetic consciousness, and one can even clearly feel "melancholy leaning on the railings of the breeze" and feel that each word is born into a silent flower in the darkness.
"Shadows of Paradise Lost" contains 148 representative works of Ungaretti from different periods. The earliest poem and the latest poem were written almost sixty years apart. Overall, a sensitive young and old poetic heart dominates everything and makes those moments standing on words eternal.
