Introduction

"Peacock Bodhi" is the first collection of novels by young writer Jiao Dian, with a preface by Mo Yan. It contains 11 stories about the Yunnan rainforest that seem real or illusory.

In the gaps between cities, there are large tracts of rainforest.

Once you step in, you will find that elephants here are light, crocodiles are compassionate, and time breaks free from linear rules and flows freely.

There really are six-legged horses here, with a relic in their hooves, and you can fly into the sky by riding them; there are Mulan boats here, and you don’t even need to prepare oars, just drink half a cup of rice wine and drift away along the river; even if you have a broken leg, you can still return to your home in the forest by sitting in a wooden wheelchair and walking for two moons.

Of course, there are women here. They can understand the language of the rain forest, and they are smart and brave to an extreme. No one can control them. Whether they are riding horses or driving boats, as long as they have two legs, they will run.
