About the Author

Sun Wu (c. 545 BC - c. 470 BC), courtesy name Changqing, was a native of Le'an, Qi State (now Huimin County, Shandong Province). He was a famous military strategist and politician during the Spring and Autumn Period of China. He was honored as the Military Saint or Sun Tzu (Sun Wuzi), and was praised as "the teacher of all military strategists" and "the founder of Eastern military science." [1]

He was active from the end of the sixth century BC to the beginning of the fifth century BC. He came from Qi to Wu, and after being recommended by Wu's important minister Wu Yuan, he presented his Thirteen Chapters of the Art of War to King Helu of Wu, who appointed him as a general. He led the Wu army to defeat the Chu army, captured the Chu capital Yingcheng, and nearly destroyed the Chu state. [2]

He wrote a masterpiece, The Art of War, which consists of 13 chapters. It is highly praised by military strategists of later generations and is known as the "holy book of military science" and is placed at the top of the "Seven Military Classics". The Art of War written by him occupies an extremely important position in the military history, military academic history and philosophical thought history of China and even the world, and is widely used in the fields of politics, economy, military, culture, philosophy, etc. It has been translated into English, French, German and Japanese, and has become the most famous military science model book in the world.
