Hu Shi (1891-1962), a native of Shangzhuang Village, Jixi, Anhui, became one of the leaders of the New Culture Movement for his advocacy of literary and ideological revolution. Hu Shi had a wide range of interests and wrote a large number of works, making groundbreaking contributions in many fields such as literature, philosophy, and history. He served as the Dean of the School of Arts at Peking University, Chinese Ambassador to the United States, President of Peking University, and President of the Academia Sinica.
