◎ Peter Handke (1942- ) is a famous Austrian novelist and playwright. He is one of the most important writers in contemporary German literature and is known as a "living classic". He won the Büchner Prize in 1973 and the Kafka Prize in 2009. He has written novels such as "The Anxiety of the Goalkeeper Facing a Penalty Kick", "Reappearance", "The Elegy of Desirelessness", and "The Left-Handed Woman", and plays such as "Scold the Audience", "Casper", and "The Moment of Strangers".
◎ In 1961, he entered the University of Graz to study law. At the age of 24, he published his first novel, The Bumblebee, after dropping out of school to concentrate on writing. In the same year, he published the play Cursing the Audience, which made him famous and caused an unprecedented sensation in the German literary world.
◎ His work "Kaspar" is comparable to Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" in the history of modern drama. He is also known as a master of creating "speaking drama" and anti-language discipline.
◎ In addition to literary creation, "Wings of Desire", co-written by Handke and Wenders, has become a classic in film history, and the film "Left-Handed Woman" directed by him was nominated for Best Film at the Cannes Film Festival.
