"South Korean Post-80s Talented Female Writer" Kim Ae-ran's first essay collection
A heartfelt retrospective on her journey of growth and literary career
Xue Zhou, winner of the Korean Literature Translation Award, pens the preface "A Name Is Life"
"Kim Ae-ran's novels are her thoughts. Her writing is her action. Many years from now, her works will transcend literature and become invaluable social records beyond news, for people to reflect on these past years."
“Names Easily Forgotten” is Kim Ae-ran’s first collection of essays, divided into three parts with thirty-two pieces. The first part, titled “Names Calling My Name,” traces the names that have crossed the author’s life, reflecting deeply on her journey of growth and past years. The second part, “Names Called With You,” records the author’s growth in a literary sense and her interactions with fellow writers. The third part, “Names Calling Us,” shares the author’s reading and travels, observations, and reflections on the surrounding society. Kim Ae-ran states, “There are no names in the world that are easily forgotten,” meaning that every ordinary person should not be forgotten. This book is both the author’s gratitude to the people who have appeared in her life and an invitation for readers to recall their past and cherish their human connections even more.
