The pioneer of modern novel art
To be honest, I don’t love the 18th century that much. I love Diderot. To be more honest, I love his novels. - Milan Kundera
"Jacques the Fatalist and His Master" is the fourth volume of "Collected Works of Diderot". The story begins with Jacques and his master on an aimless journey. We do not know their identities or where they are going. They talk about their experiences on the way and constantly reflect and debate on popular social issues at the time, from novel art, religion, class to relationships between men and women, moral ethics, etc. Milan Kundera praised it highly and called it "the highest achievement of the eighteenth century novel art."
