Marguerite Duras (1914-1996): French novelist, playwright, film director, born Marguerite Donadieu, was born in Indochina and returned to France to settle down at the age of 18. She won international fame with the films Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) and La Song de Indias (1975), and won the Goncourt Prize for her novel The Lover (1984).
