Tadao Ando
Tadao Ando is one of the most active and influential architects in the world today. He is a self-taught master of architectural design. In more than 30 years, he has created nearly 150 internationally renowned architectural works. He is the third Japanese architect to win the Pritzker Prize, after Kenzo Tange and Kisho Kurokawa. Ando has created a unique architectural style. He uses bare concrete materials and simple geometric structures to create a quiet and bright space effect, bringing epoch-making inspiration to traditional Japanese architectural design.
Born in Osaka in 1941. Architect. After traveling around the world, he studied architecture by himself and founded the Tadao Ando Architectural Institute in 1969. He was a visiting professor at Yale University, Columbia University, and Harvard University. In 1997, he became a professor at the University of Tokyo and became an honorary professor in 2003. His works include "Sumiyoshi Nagaya", "Japan Government Pavilion at the World Expo", "Church of Light", "Osaka Prefectural Chikaka Museum", "Awaji Yumebutai", "Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art", and "Fort Wolfsburg Museum of Modern Art".
In 1979, he won the Japan Institute of Architecture Award for his Sumiyoshi Nagaya, and in 2002, he won the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal. His works include "Discovering Dreams in Architecture - Tadao Ando on Architecture", "Continuous Defeat", and "Houses with Le Corbusier's Courage".
