Hesse:

Hermann Hesse (1877-1962), a German writer and poet, is one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. His motto “do your own thing” has been the motto of several generations of young people in the United States. He is known as the last knight of German romanticism.

At the age of 21, he self-published his first poetry collection, Romantic Songs;

At the age of 27, he published Peter Kamenzinn, which caused a sensation and won the Bauenfeld Prize.

At the age of 59, he won the Swiss Literature Award Gottfried Keller Prize;

Won the Goethe Prize at the age of 69;

Won the Nobel Prize in Literature at the age of 69;

Died of illness at the age of 85.
