Description

Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was a representative writer, poet, playwright and fairy tale writer of British aestheticism in the late 19th century. He was born in a distinguished family in Dublin. He studied ancient Greek classics at Oxford University and began his literary creation. Long before his fairy tales became known to the world, at the age of 24, his poems won a prize. This had a great influence on his later literary activities. The formation of his creative style originated from fairy tales. In May 1888, his first collection of fairy tales, The Happy Prince and Others, was published and immediately caused a sensation. In December 1891, his other collection of fairy tales, The House of Pomegranates, came out. The British magazine "Elegance" compared him with Andersen, saying that his "The Selfish Giant" was a "perfect work" and the entire collection of fairy tales was the crystallization of pure English.
