This is a masterpiece by a master of critical thinking, a popular thinking method in the United States, and an internationally recognized authority on critical thinking. It brings you the most profound insights and best thoughts on human thinking. A changing world requires critical thinking, an unknown world requires dialectical thinking, and a complex world requires prudent thinking. Expert Recommendation
What I appreciate most about the book "Thinking and Standpoint" is the viewpoint of "cognitive virtue" in the book. The author tells people that critical thinking is a personality quality, and high-quality critical thinking should have the characteristics of fairness, inclusiveness, trust in reasoning, cognitive humility, independent thinking, cognitive courage, cognitive perseverance, and unity of knowledge and action.
——Xu Yan, Dean of the School of Psychology, Beijing Normal University
Traditional and rigid ways of thinking will restrict our development, which requires us to use critical thinking to constantly learn, reflect frequently, and regularly evaluate our work and lifestyle. The book "Thinking and Standpoint" provides a scientific guide for those who are willing to cultivate their own thinking ability, and also provides a very valuable reference for teachers, students and friends.
——Wang Lifei, Dean of the School of English, University of International Business and Economics, and member of the Higher Education English Major Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education
Paul and Elder have made it their mission to develop fair-minded critical thinkers. In Thinking and Standing, they share their deep insights into thinking, their best thinking about thinking. This book challenges us to accept its challenge and become better in every way, using our best thinking as a tool to seek social justice.
-- Daryl Watkins, Chair of Leadership at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Richard Paul and Linda Elder's recent collaboration advocates for conscious thinking and choices, and Thoughts and Standpoints is rich with examples that provide effective ways to uncover faulty thought processes, examine inherited values, and enhance our ability to pursue a peaceful world.
--Richard Ramana, Director of Academic Assessment, Bronx Community College, City University of New York
Dr. Richard Paul and Dr. Linda Elder have developed an approach that contrasts the tendency to accept critical thinking as a necessity with the vague interpretations that once characterized it. Thinking and Standing challenges its readers to draw from a wide range of examples to develop effective reasoning about the challenges that beset humanity.
--Julie Steven DeJorge, professor of Spanish at the University of Central Missouri
