Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
Can materials only be manipulated as passive components? Will they become "alive", able to sense the environment, adapt to the environment, and self-assemble together? If you are interested in these questions and want to predict the next major change in the field of materials, "The New Materials Revolution" is a must-read.
Skylar Tibbits, founder of the MIT Self-Assembly Lab, demonstrates novel design and manufacturing methods in the field of materials in this book, demonstrating the surprising but still untapped capabilities of materials; using methods that seem to reverse entropy to create simple material "robots", programming everyday objects or environments to "come alive"; challenging the traditional idea that things will decompose over time, arguing that objects can get better over time; in the near future, we will be able to program materials to become more active, more adaptable, and self-evolve.
