Jeanette Winterson

One of the best and most controversial writers of our time.

Born in Manchester, England in 1959, he was adopted by a religious couple. There were six books in his home at that time, and "The Death of King Arthur" inspired Winterson's desire for books and writing.

In 1978, Winterson fell in love with a girl and ran away from home. She stayed and worked in funeral homes and mental hospitals, but still got into the English Department of Oxford University with all A grades.

In 1985, her debut novel Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit was published and won the Whitbread First Book Award. The BBC series of the same name adapted by her was also well received and won various international awards.

Representative works include: "Passion", "Gender of Cherry", "Written on the Body", "Art and Lies", "Apple Notebook", "Watching the Lighthouse", etc.

In 2006, Winterson was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his outstanding literary achievements.
