Contents:
"Flag of Desire" (1996) is a long masterpiece created by Ge Fei during his transitional period. It is a powerful attempt by him to intervene in reality after his avant-garde experimental stage.
On the eve of an important academic conference in the philosophy department of a university in Shanghai, Professor Jia, the initiator and executive chairman of the conference, committed suicide by jumping off a building without warning, and the conference had to be interrupted. Information about Professor Jia's life was pieced together bit by bit through the memories of others, and the story unfolded.
As the meeting was being prepared and carried out, other characters also appeared one after another: Zeng Shan, a student of Professor Jia, was a staunch rationalist, but he always fell into self-doubt; Song Zijin was Zeng Shan's senior brother, who was muddle-headed in lies and emotional games all day long, and finally fell into madness. Also at the core of the incident were Zeng Shan's wife Zhang Mo, a Buddhist master, an economic fraudster, a data clerk, etc., all of whom were sinking in the abyss of their own desires.
When the flag of desire is unfurled, some people fall down, some are still struggling, and some have already rushed to another carnival...
