Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
This is a short history of the development and evolution of French literature from the late Middle Ages to the late 19th century. The text does not focus on the use of various literary theory terms, does not include a systematic introduction to the life and works of any French writer, and even the quotations are only a few words. However, the author uses a "Spring and Autumn style" to concisely and accurately show the essence and soul of French literature to readers, which is enough to allow readers to have a systematic and sophisticated understanding of French literature.
The author Strachey's precise arguments, reasonable judgments, and exquisite writing style make Milestones of French Literature a classic work of French literary history. It is also of great literary value and is well received by early modern literature lovers. The famous essayist Liang Yuchun commented: "So this literary history can be said to be a biography of the literary world... If readers who don't read much French works want to understand the evolution of French literature, then this book is probably the most delicious introduction."
