Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
In the history of Chinese art, especially in the history of modern and contemporary calligraphy and painting, "Haipai" is a term that cannot be bypassed. So many calligraphers and painters appeared in one region. They were both wise in inheriting traditions and bold in innovation. They were market-oriented and took the appreciation of citizens as a benchmark, forming a diversified art school that is appreciated by both the elite and the masses. Haipai is rooted in the traditional scholar-official culture of Jiangnan. While inheriting Chinese traditional culture, it is connected to the new source of Western art trends. Some use the skills of white-drawing realistic painting to learn from Western watercolor painting; some combine the ancients' brushwork with Western techniques, and the mountains, wind and rain are all illusory; some absorb the essence of traditional folk art, use fine brushes and dry ink, and the brushwork is vigorous. All the Haipai artists are masters of fan painting. Some painters are not good at large scrolls, but their fan paintings are beautiful and lovely. It is particularly worth mentioning that the round fan, which retreated to the second line in the Ming Dynasty, quietly became active on the desks of Haipai calligraphers and painters in the late Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. Folding fans and round fans are valued and loved at the same time. This is the first time in the history of fan culture. Just as Mr. Cheng Shifa used "vast sea" to describe Shanghai School of Painting and Calligraphy, today we can revisit these exquisite fan paintings and appreciate the broad-mindedness of the sea and the elegance of the breeze blowing out of the sleeves and the bright moon in the arms. This volume selects flower and bird round fans from the Shanghai School of Painting and Calligraphy in the late Qing Dynasty and compiles them into a volume, fully displaying the elegance of Shanghai School flower and bird round fans.
