Mario Vargas Llosa (1936-), a writer and poet with dual Peruvian and Spanish nationality, is the winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature. Llosa has written novels, plays, prose essays, poems, literary criticism, political essays, directed stage plays, films, hosted radio and television programs, and worked in politics, participating in the election for the presidency of Peru. Llosa's works have strange and bizarre techniques and rich, diverse and profound content, which earned him the title of "Master of Structural Realism" and made him a well-deserved master among living Latin American writers.
Translator’s Profile
Hou Jian, born in 1987, holds a doctorate in literature. He is an associate professor of the Spanish Department at the College of Europe of Xi'an International Studies University, the director of the Center for Latin American Studies, an expert member of the Translators Association of China, and a literary translator. He is the author of Historia de la traducción de la literatura hispánica en China (1915-2020) and the translator of From Márquez to Vargas Llosa: Looking Back at the "Literary Boom", Princeton Literature Course, Five Street Corners, Science Fiction Spirit, Soldiers of Salamis, 33 Revolutions, Hunger (co-translated), Wandering in Bookstores (co-translated), and Last Holiday (co-translated).
