Yang Benfen was born in Xiangyin, Hunan in 1940. At the age of 17, she was admitted to Xiangyin Industrial School, and later entered the Jiangxi Communist University Branch. Before graduation, she was sent to the rural areas of Jiangxi. For decades, she worked hard to make a living, took care of her husband and children, and later retired from a car transportation company. She began writing at the age of 60 and published short stories in magazines such as "Red Bean" and "Dianchi".
