Nobel Prize winner Neruda is one of the most outstanding Latin American poets of the 20th century. His poems are concise, passionate, and full of thoughts and concerns about nature, love, and the fate of mankind. The Nobel Prize judges once praised that "his poems have the effect of natural forces, reviving the fate and dreams of a continent". This book selects 15 poems suitable for children to read from Neruda's classic poetry collections such as "Questions", "Ode to the Elements", and "Songs". These poems are concise in structure, profound in meaning, and full of imagination, fun, and rhythm between the lines, and have a very high literary value.

◎ Inspire creativity with poetry, learn accurate individual expression, and cultivate children's perception, love of life and pursuit of beauty

This book includes Neruda's representative works of different periods and styles: from the curiosity and exploration of all things in nature in "Some Questions", to the attention and creative thinking on ordinary things in life in "Song of the Elements", to the examination and pursuit of human emotions, truth and justice in "Stars and Roses" and "Poetry and the Motherland", page after page of poetry fully shows the poet's thoughts. In terms of arrangement, it also strives to be close to children's hearts and growth experiences, from concrete to abstract, from innocence to grand, step by step and gradually sublimated, aiming to lead children to approach masters, get close to poetry, and enjoy the essence of poetry. By reading poetry, children can hone their language and learn precise and individual expressions. More importantly, poetry can lead children to observe, feel, and think about the world from a fresh perspective, stimulate creativity with poetry, and cultivate children's perception, love of life and pursuit of beauty.

◎ 32 full-color print-style illustrations, artistically presenting the unique style of Latin America

Young illustrator Chen Qi carefully drew 32 full-color print-style illustrations for this book, which vividly show the unique scenery of Latin America with rich and colorful colors and naive and cute images: here there are not only the majestic Machu Picchu peak, the clever and cute alpacas, and the freely hovering mountain eagles, but also tomatoes flooding the streets like a tide, onions as bright as a planet, and spoons busy delivering food... Everything is full of vitality and dreamy. Poetry and painting complement each other, helping children better understand the meaning of poetry, adding interest to reading, and leading children into the beautiful and dreamy world of poetry.

Introduction

The "Great Writers Write for Children" series of books selects children's literature works compiled by world literary masters, aiming to provide domestic young readers with literary reading materials that are close to classics, easy to read, and broaden their horizons.

This book selects 15 poems suitable for children to read aloud by Neruda, the Nobel Prize winner and the most important poet in Latin America in the 20th century. It is divided into 4 chapters: "Some Questions" consists of 36 questions without answers. The poet asks questions to the moon, clouds, mountains, rivers, seas, seasons, animals, dreams and growth in a childlike and innocent way, inviting children to dance with imagination and explore the secrets of creation together. "Song of the Elements" introduces ordinary little things in life into poetry, such as onions that are round like dewdrops, tomatoes that are frolicking on the streets, and spoons that are busy delivering food. Poetic inspiration makes everything come alive. "Stars and Roses" praises flowers, stars, oceans, birds, and the breadth and depth of human love. In "Poetry and the Motherland", the poet becomes a time traveler, traveling between the mountains, rivers, scenery and long history of the Latin American continent, singing for the motherland and people he loves.
