Introduction · · · · · ·
The Laozi has 5,000 words and 81 chapters, most of which are in rhyme. It is divided into two parts: Daojing and Dejing, so it is also called Daodejing. It stands side by side with Zhuangzi, and is a representative work of the Taoist school of the pre-Qin period. It focuses on a detailed discussion of the Way of Heaven, which is the ontology of the universe, the source of all things, and the law of motion, and uses it to care for humanity, guide state governance and self-cultivation, involving all aspects of the universe, nature, society, and life, and constructs a unique theoretical system with simple dialectical thinking. This time, the handed-down Wang Bi's Laozi Daodejing Notes (Zhonghua Book Company Edition of the Complete Works of Various Philosophers) is used as the base text, and the bamboo slips and silk books are used for proofreading. The important research results of predecessors and modern people are widely absorbed and quoted, and annotations and translations are made for readers' reference.
