The Laozi has 5,000 words and 81 chapters, most of which are in rhyme. It is divided into two parts: Daojing and Dejing, so it is also called Daodejing. It stands side by side with Zhuangzi, and is a representative work of the Taoist school of the pre-Qin period. It focuses on a detailed discussion of the Way of Heaven, which is the ontology of the universe, the source of all things, and the law of motion, and uses it to care for humanity, guide state governance and self-cultivation, involving all aspects of the universe, nature, society, and life, and constructs a unique theoretical system with simple dialectical thinking.
