About the Author · · · · · ·
Anthony Brown was born in Sheffield, England in 1946. He loved art since he was a child and often drew with his father. Later, he entered Harry Dubrovnik's Leeds School of Art to study painting. After graduation, Anthony Brown worked at Manchester Royal Hospital and illustrated some medical books. In the end, he devoted himself to his favorite "real painting" and achieved great success in picture book creation.
Special experiences have created Anthony Brown's unique artistic style. On the one hand, his experience in medical illustrations makes his paintings delicate and realistic, and never rough; on the other hand, due to the influence of the surrealist painter Magritte, he often hides "magical and humorous elements" in neat composition, bright colors, and dramatic pictures: in all kinds of wonderful ideas, his works are sometimes calm and composed, sometimes fantasy and romantic, sometimes funny and cute, and sometimes long-lasting. In short, his picture books always give people new discoveries and surprises from time to time, allowing readers to feel endless fun in repeated reading and appreciation.
It is touching that the master Anthony Brown not only has a genius artistic mind, but also has a warm heart. His creations are brave enough to reflect reality, focusing on social themes such as family life, parent-child relationships, feminism, and vulnerable groups. More importantly, he can deeply observe and grasp the characteristics of children, appreciate and understand their real needs, and strive to present their inner world. Therefore, he can often help children find emotional sustenance and comfort, so as to gain hope and happiness.
Anthony Brown has many works, including the famous "Gorilla", "My Dad", "My Mom", "I Like Books" and so on. Willy, a little gorilla who often appears in them, has also become a classic picture book image. Anthony Brown has won many awards in the field of picture books, including the Kate Greenaway Award, the Kurt Mahila Award, the German Picture Book Award, the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the Dutch Silver Brush Award, etc., which makes the name Anthony Brown well-known and extremely famous.
