Description
Introduction
A Guide to the Wilderness is a collection of short stories by the famous Canadian novelist Margaret Atwood. The collection describes the complicated modern life and also explores the wonders and mysteries of the human mind. The husband's lover sends a box of gifts that seem sweet but are actually terrifying (Hairball); the archaeological excavation of the Quagmire Man is intertwined with the romantic affairs of modern people (Quagmire Man); the girl who disappeared inexplicably on the forest path seems to have returned in many landscape paintings many years later (Death by the Landscape); the famous journalist is betrayed by a former colleague who is both a teacher and a friend (Uncles);... The normal hustle and bustle and acrimony in life are all visible in the novel, and the writer's unique use of sharp humor to express the relationship between characters is the author's unique feature. A Guide to the Wilderness creates a world around readers that is both familiar and alienated, bright and ambiguous.
