◎ Introduction
This book provides an accessible historical overview of philosophical thought, supplemented by a wealth of invaluable primary texts. This is a comprehensive, historically informed introduction to philosophy that conveys the richness of the subject and provides students with a specialist understanding of the development of Western philosophy. It covers the major contributions of the most influential philosophers of Western civilization in a lively, accessible style.
The new edition retains the ideological and writing concepts that made the original book popular for several editions, and has been revised in chronology and style to keep up with the times. It also adds a section on "Political Philosophy" at the end of Chapter 20, which uses restrained space to present the essence of Rawls and Nozick's thoughts. This book is accompanied by important vocabulary, extended reading and other sections for readers' convenience.
