"Viewing Mountains and Seas" is a popular reading version of "Classic of Mountains and Seas" with rich content and pictures, mainly presenting the part about strange beasts.
·
The illustrator Shan Ze used the Classic of Mountains and Seas as a source of inspiration, combining contemporary aesthetic tastes and unique Chinese painting style to create paintings. He gave a vivid and magnificent new interpretation of hundreds of magical beasts in ancient legends, and accompanied them with concise original texts and interesting interpretations, adding another kind of imaginative wings to the ancient Chinese legends.
·
During the creative process, Sugizawa spent three years conceiving and combining various documentary materials to ensure that the image of each exotic beast was not created out of thin air, but had profound cultural reasons.
·
The translation and annotation part was written by the author Liang Chao, who used Hao Yixing's "Shan Hai Jing Jianshu" as the basis, and referred to the proofread and translated versions of Guo Pu, Yuan Ke and others. He finally annotated it in plain and easy-to-understand vernacular, extended some of the stories, and added a lot of new and interesting knowledge.
·
In addition, this book also provides Chinese phonetic notation for a large number of rare characters that appear in the original text, striving to bring readers a better reading experience.

There are numerous books on the market about the Classic of Mountains and Seas, but this book is made with great care. It is said that the Classic of Mountains and Seas originally had pictures, but the pictures were lost later, leaving only the text. Later generations re-drew the pictures based on the text, but the painting skills were generally not satisfactory. The painters of this book drew very exquisite portraits of the strange beasts in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, which are full of artistry and imagination. What is more valuable is that this book is not only a collection of paintings, but also contains a large number of annotations on the Classic of Mountains and Seas, which provides multi-faceted help for modern readers to understand this wonderful book.

It is difficult for humans to imagine something they have never seen, so even if it is a wild fantasy, if we examine it carefully, we will find that it is actually the splicing and reorganization of various elements in nature. For the Chinese ancestors, there has never been a lack of grand and romantic imagination, and the existence of "Shan Hai Jing" is evidence of this. But today, when science and rationality are flourishing, when we travel between mountains and seas with the ancients and look down on those fairy birds and beasts, have we ever thought about what their prototypes in nature are? Today, a talented author tells us the answer in his mind with this book "Viewing Mountains and Seas".
