The Art of Reading is a collection of more than 60 essays, reviews and speeches by the famous publisher and writer Nie Zhenning on reading, books and even publishing. The author entered the publishing industry as a reader and author, and has been in the industry for decades. This book contains four parts, namely, the philosophy of reading, the method of reading, random thoughts on reading and notes on reading. "The philosophy of reading" mainly discusses the value of reading, the purpose of reading and the relationship between reading and various aspects of human society; "The method of reading" discusses the specific methods of reading, which together with the philosophy of reading constitute the whole of the art of reading; "Random thoughts on reading" concentrates on a series of thoughts triggered by the various reading lives at present. And "Notes on reading" is a group of practices of reading methods and explanations of some classic must-read books.

Nie Zhenning is a famous publisher and writer. He is a member of the 10th, 11th and 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Chinese Writers Association, and an expert enjoying special allowances from the State Council. He graduated from the Chinese Department of Peking University and received an honorary doctorate in literature from the University of Edinburgh Napier in the United Kingdom. He has served as the editor-in-chief and president of Lijiang Publishing House, the president and editor-in-chief of People's Literature Publishing House, and the president of China Publishing Group. He personally selected and introduced the Harry Potter series. He is currently the chairman of the China Tao Feng Foundation and the vice chairman of the China Publishing Association. He is also the dean of the Publishing Research Institute of Nanjing University, the doctoral supervisor of Communication University of China, and the distinguished professor of Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication. He has won the Tao Feng Publishing Award and the title of one of the 100 outstanding publishing figures in the 60 years of New China. His representative works include "Changle-Selected Novels of Nie Zhenning", "Reading Power", and "Books I Can't Bear to Finish Reading". Among them, "Reading Power" was rated as one of the "50 Popular Books" in 2017.
