Gu Cheng was born in 1956 in a poet's family. His father was the famous poet Gu Gong. Gu Cheng had profound skills in writing poetry. He was not only good at modern poetry, but also good at writing classical poetry and fables. Gu Cheng was the main representative of Misty Poetry and was known as a contemporary romantic poet. His early poems had a childlike innocent style and dreamy emotions, and he used intuitive and impressionistic sentences to sing the fairy-tale-like youth life. A sentence in his "A Generation" "The night gave me black eyes/but I used them to find light" became a classic sentence in Chinese modern poetry. In his later years, he lived in seclusion on the Rapids Island. On October 8, 1993, he committed suicide in his New Zealand apartment due to a divorce, killing his wife Xie Ye. He left behind a large number of poems, essays, calligraphy, paintings and other works. His works have been translated into more than ten languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, and Swedish.
