The manuscript is divided into six volumes. The first volume tells the daily life of the Song people; the second volume tells the elegant play and elegant interest of the literati in the Song Dynasty; the third volume describes the social conditions in the Song Dynasty; the fourth volume introduces the urban public facilities in the Song Dynasty; the fifth volume focuses on presenting the commercial prosperity of the Song Dynasty; and the sixth volume examines the etiquette issues in the political life of the Song Dynasty. In the convenient use of historical materials, the author restored the life scenes of the people in the Song Dynasty by searching hundreds of Song Dynasty paintings. At the same time, a small number of Song Dynasty murals, brick carvings, unearthed cultural relics, and physical documents are used as supplements, as well as a few Tang Dynasty paintings, Ming Dynasty paintings, and Qing Dynasty paintings as references, so as to achieve mutual verification and comparison.
