About the Author
Jean Claude Ellena
Born in Grasse, France, the city of perfume, in 1947, his father, brother and daughter are all perfumers. When he was 4 years old, he climbed onto a chair and secretly opened a biscuit box and smelled a slight musty smell. The strong joy brought by breaking the ban left a deep memory for him and became the starting point of his olfactory career. At the age of 16, he worked the night shift as an apprentice in a local essential oil factory; at the age of 20, he became the first student of the Givaudan Perfumery School and only attended classes for nine months; at the age of 36, he officially joined Givaudan as the chief perfumer, and later joined the Hammen Lemmer Fragrance Company (now merged into Symrise).
In 1990, he co-founded the Osmothèque perfume museum in Versailles (literally translated as "scent library"). In 2000, he and his daughter founded their own salon perfume brand, Beaufort. In 2004, he became the first exclusive perfumer of Hermès and created many highly regarded perfumes. Elena's most famous perfume works include the Garden series and the Salon perfume collection series, which is only sold in Hermès stores.
