If you lived in A Bit of France, you would...
I have a home in a quiet and leisurely French town. I know all my neighbors. They gather in the town square to chat about family matters. The owners of cafes, bakeries, and grocery stores are all old friends. Old people play chess and cards in the street garden, and the onlookers smile but do not say a word. After get off work, men lie on the counter of the bar to cheer for their favorite team. The annual Tour de France is naturally the top priority. Even on rainy days, people squeeze on the roadside to watch. Amid the gorgeous fireworks of the summer music festival, life is as peaceful as water, but full of flavor.
Sempé uses a gentle and humorous brush to sketch hundreds of scenes of French life, giving us a glimpse of the panoramic view of France through every detail.
