📝
◎ Beautiful, light-filled brushstrokes depict the delicate emotions of women and their close connection with nature
The "impressionist" writing style is matched by the hazy watercolor illustrations of the French countryside.
Visual text mobilizes all senses, breathing in the smells and colors experienced at different stages of life
◎ Covers the most common setbacks and disillusionments in all women’s lives
The book tells the story of the life of a noblewoman named Yona, who pursued happiness but could not obtain it. It covers the hardships and disillusionment that all women are most likely to experience: the betrayal of her husband, the death of her parents, the departure of her children.
◎ Beautiful and delicate text provides an extremely gentle reading experience
The delicate description of the beautiful scenery of the French countryside casts a gentle mist over all the unfortunate experiences, just like a gentle big hand soothing a crying heart.
◎ Elegant illustrations allow readers to immerse themselves in the charm of the French countryside
The Impressionist-style illustrations were drawn by French master painter Eddie Legrand, whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum of Modern Art in France and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The book is printed in four colors and presents a detailed and immersive view of the French countryside.

Contents:
A Life tells the story of the life of a noblewoman named Yona, who pursued happiness but could not obtain it. In A Life, Maupassant noticed the close connection between women and nature with his keen eyes. By describing the life of a noblewoman named Yona, whose ideals were constantly shattered, he raised questions about marriage and love under the "traditional" and patriarchal worldview, as well as people's reliance on religion.
A Life is one of Maupassant's classic novels, and it is also Maupassant's first novel that focuses on women's feelings. A Life was completed under the urging and care of his mentor Flaubert. There were four manuscripts and the novel took five years to complete. Although it was written intermittently, it was carefully polished and was his painstaking work. All subsequent novels have the shadow of A Life.

Celebrity recommendation:
Fifty-five years have passed since Maupassant wrote A Life. If anyone thinks that the type of woman has changed in the meantime, he is mistaken. In France, there is the sentimental and unpretentious Yona, the Lepage de Vaux, and the Abbé Picaud.
—Edmond Jaloux
Yona's life experience is shaped by her parents' experience, and when they ask Yona if she wants to get married, she is still subject to the same silent tyranny that a young girl might endure today, that is, when a mother subtly interjects, "Oh, that guy is nice," or when a parent says, "Do you want to marry this guy?" ... Yona is subject to the same pressures that a young woman might experience today.
—Stéphane Brizé, director of A Life
He (Maupassant) was an outstanding genius in the French literary world in the late 19th century.
——Turgenev
I could not have asked for a better teacher than Maupassant.
