The Suffering of the World is a field research book written by Bourdieu and 22 other collaborators in his later years with delicate emotions, careful observation and listening, and interviewing hundreds of people over three years. Through vivid life history cases in the form of interviews, it shows the difficulties and pains of ordinary people in contemporary French society in their daily lives, and through sociological explanations, reveals the profound social and political roots behind the pain, as well as the complex relationship between people and society. This book is Bourdieu's most famous achievement of integrating the responsibility of scholars with the mission of citizens, focusing on the difficult situation of vulnerable groups. The seemingly plain narrative of personal life history contains the shocking truth of suffering.
