Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
This book includes the author's systematic discussion and detailed analysis of the main thoughts and important ideological figures in modern China from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom to the Revolution of 1911, such as Kang Youwei, Tan Sitong, Yan Fu, Sun Yat-sen, Zhang Taiyan, and Lu Xun.
The first article analyzes from an ideological perspective why the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom "rose so rapidly and fell so suddenly", pointing out many regular phenomena in the peasant revolutionary war, which is full of profound meaning.
The following chapters elaborately analyze the reformist ideas and figures of the Hundred Days' Reform, and highly evaluate Kang Youwei's Great Harmony Thought and the strategy of reforming the system by referring to the past. In addition, Yan Fu's special status in the history of modern Chinese thought, the prominent ideological characteristics of Zhang Taiyan's populism, the mental journey of intellectuals in the early 20th century who turned to revolution out of patriotism, and the unique significance of Liang Qichao, Wang Guowei and others are all pointed out and discussed in detail or briefly.
