William Ford Gibson (1948-)
One of the most important English writers of our time, grandmaster of science fiction, and father of cyberpunk.
His debut novel, Neuromancer, pioneered the "cyberpunk" literary genre, and in 1985, it unprecedentedly swept the Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards. In 2005, Time magazine listed it among "the 100 best English-language novels since 1923."
Gibson not only opened up a whole new frontier for science fiction, but his brilliant writing style and incisive philosophical speculation also endowed science fiction with a new texture and depth. Each of his novels is a contemporary classic that can be re-read and savored repeatedly.
He is also the inventor of the term "cyberspace." The omnipresent terms "cyberspace" and "virtual reality" entered our language system due to the influence of Gibson's novels.
