Description
Why Snakes Fly is an important novel written by Su Tong after My Life as Emperor, Empress Wu Zetian, and Rice. In this novel, Su Tong steps away from his usual historical and hometown narratives, focusing his attention on contemporary society: a blonde girl from the North moves into a train station hotel, and with her scream in the bathroom, a snake plague suddenly breaks out in the city, with chaotic swarms of snakes everywhere. Ke Yuan, who makes a living from society, rushes around to collect debts, leading to a death. The blonde girl and Ke Yuan meet by chance, but Ke Yuan cannot be a real man... Focusing on the small characters who live and come and go around the train station, Su Tong begins to ponder the fate of a group of marginalized individuals abandoned by society.
