Description
Su Tong's novels are elegantly and calmly narrated, pure as water; though plainly written, they are rich in meaning; his writing is refined and full of Southern China charm; narration and lyricism are perfectly combined. His writing style is unique.
The "father-son" relationship has always been a theme in Su Tong's novels. Ma Daheng in "The Taming Record" is blind, but he is not blind at all; he is a discerning person. He realizes that Ma Jun should not be a hostess, and he knows that Ma Jun is filial. However, Ma Jun, the legendary figure in the drinking world, just "left." In the days that followed, Ma Daheng lived alone. Who else would endure his slaps? …
"The Taming Record" is another masterpiece of his, which includes novellas such as "Spring in the Meat Processing Plant," "Osmanthus Chain Group," "The Taming Record," and "Letters from the Public," full of whimsical ideas and the absurdity and reality of the human world.
