What is the difference between an intimate relationship and a casual acquaintance? Are a man and a woman really a good match? What is the secret of attraction? Are men and women really different animals? Is homosexuality really determined by genes? Are children from single-parent families more likely to get divorced when they grow up? What is love? What does it consist of? How long can it last? What are the differences between the two sexes in having a one-night stand and choosing a lifelong partner? Are love and sexual desire controlled by different brain regions? What is the secret to a happy intimate relationship? Is there any way to make a marriage last a lifetime? Professor Miller answered these questions in Intimate Relationships, especially clarifying the empirical talk and even some wrong views advocated by popular psychology.
"Intimate Relationships" draws on the latest achievements of social psychology, communication research, family research, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, evolutionary psychology, sociology, communication and home economics, and pays equal attention to research practice and theoretical construction, and has both academic standards and public interest. The book has a clear structure, rigorous logic, vivid language, and inspiring thinking. It is easy to understand and enjoyable to read. It is also scientific and authoritative, and advocates the spirit of empiricism. This book follows the cognitive law from shallow to deep, from general to specific, and discusses the foundation, activity form, type, contradiction and repair of intimate relationships. After reading this book, you will have a new understanding of all aspects of intimate relationships such as interpersonal attraction, love, marriage, commitment, friendship, passion, communication, sex, attachment, mate selection, jealousy, cheating, domestic violence, etc.
Intimate relationships are the core of human experience. If handled well, they can bring great happiness to people, but if handled poorly, they can cause major trauma. Therefore, a scientific understanding of intimate relationships is related to the happiness of each of us. This book is suitable for professionals who study intimate relationships, which can bring them enlightenment and inspiration, and is also suitable for ordinary readers who want sweet love, long-lasting marriage, and a happy life.
