About the Author
John Sutherland is a British scholar and writer. He was a judge for the Booker Prize and is currently an honorary professor of modern English literature at University College London. He regularly contributes to The Times, The Guardian, The New York Times and The London Review of Books. His research covers Victorian novels, 20th-century literature, popular fiction and publishing history.

As a senior researcher of English literature and an old professor with nearly 60 years of teaching experience, he is good at using easy-to-understand and profound methods to sort out the literary context and popularize literary knowledge for the general readers. His works include "Novel Reading Guide" (2006) and "Literary Remnants: A Feast for Book Lovers" (2008). He is the editor-in-chief of "A Short History of Yale Literature", "Literary Talks", "A Brief History of Best-selling Novels in Britain and the United States", etc.
