◆ Introduction:
Over the past twenty years since it was first published in the United States in 1991, this book has become a must-read and introductory book for Buddhism enthusiasts around the world.
Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh calmly and charmingly narrates the complete life of Buddha Shakyamuni from birth, growth, renunciation, practice, enlightenment, preaching, to Nirvana.
It seems that the world has discovered for the first time from this book that Buddha was never a god, but a human being. He has no magical powers and is confused and in pain just like us. He also has a family, a wife and a son, but he left them and embarked on the path of practicing to become a Buddha and save all living beings.
The Buddha in the book is not only great and compassionate, but also real and lovely; what you see is the Buddha himself who lived 2,500 years ago. You see him sitting on the ground eating with everyone. His majesty while eating is fascinating. After the meal, he cleans up the tableware and puts it away like everyone else. His every move radiates the spiritual light of Buddhism.
The story of the Buddha's life is told in a leisurely manner, blending the profound mystery of Buddhism; whether you have a foundation in Buddhism or not, reading this book will be a spiritual practice full of joy, emotion and great benefit.
The original name of this book was "White Clouds on the Old Road". In order to enable more readers to understand this great work, we used a simpler and more straightforward name in the reprint: "The Life of the Buddha".
